Hello, I am having trouble connecting to my wireless network for my Xbox and cannot play online. I restarted my router but that didn't work. Later something popped up on my screen that said 'Your router or modem may be set up to filter out some devices. Make sure your router or modem isn't filtering out your console's MAC address, which is so. At this point, neither the Xbox nor the modem should be connected to the router. Now connect your Xbox directly to your modem (use the same cable that was connecting your Xbox to your router). Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for a minimum of 5 seconds to turn off the console. Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem.

A router is a connecting device that transfers data packets between different computer networks. Typically, they are used to connect a PC or an organization's LAN to a broadband internet connection. Repeaters, Hubs, and Switches
Repeaters, hubs and switches connect network devices together so that they can function as a single segment.
A repeater receives a signal and regenerates it before re-transmitting so that it can travel longer distances.
A hub is a multiport repeater having several input/output ports, so that input at any port is available at every other port.
A switch receives data from a port, uses packet switching to resolve the destination device and then forwards the data to the particular destination, rather than broadcasting it as a hub.
